The Townspeople are denizens of the sleepy town of Thistleprick Corners, think 1878-but-with-therapy-apps. Passing the organic saloon every third day at 9am sharp, the stagecoach riders can spy ladies in lace gloves organizing book clubs about self-actualization. The general store more Erewon than Ralphs, offers cruelty-free pleather high-button shoes and matcha everything. When Mercury’s in retrograde, Mayor Tillinghast proudly gives TED talks from the bandstand on topics like “Manifesting Abundance with Proper Butter Churning.” Even the blacksmith offers vision boards along with horseshoes, and the local pastor gently reminds everyone during Sunday sermons to “honor thy feelings” before smiting anything. They present as simple folk, but in reality, everyone is emotionally complex.
