AI or not to AI

Today's entry is brief, but don’t let that fool you—it's packed with enough existential musings to fill a small novel (or at least a very long tweet). I often find myself wading through the murky waters of my feelings about AI. Some days, I’m ready to storm the castle with a pitchfork, firmly opposing its use, while other days, I try to don my rose-colored glasses and view AI as the shiny tool it can be (pun unintended but thoroughly acknowledged). It’s a bit like comparing a trusty old dictionary to a hyper-intelligent robot that can write an entire novel in the time it takes me to figure out how to spell “definitely.”
The Great AI Debate: Tool or Tyrant?
Now, let’s be real: a dictionary is a fantastic companion when you’re trying to sound smart at a dinner party, but AI can take over the whole writing gig if you let it. Imagine inviting a friend over to help you with your novel, only to find out they’ve brought their entire family and a marching band. Artistically speaking, AI-generated graphics fall into a category that, for me, feels like the bland cousin of hand-crafted artwork. Sure, it looks nice, but where’s the soul? Where’s the slightly awkward fingerprint smudge that says, “Yes, a human made this, and they definitely had a snack break halfway through”?
Embracing Our Flaws
Humans are inherently flawed, and let’s be honest, that’s what makes us interesting! We make mistakes, we trip over our own feet, and sometimes we even send a text to the wrong person (sorry, Larry, I didn’t mean to tell you about my evening that came with a "bonus"). The relentless pursuit of perfection can sometimes mask our true selves, leading to a loss of authenticity. It’s like trying to present a perfectly polished rock at a geology convention, only to realize everyone else is showcasing their beautifully imperfect stones with all their character intact. So, today feels like a day to take a firm stance—perhaps even a dramatic one, complete with a fist raised to the sky! Let’s celebrate our imperfections and the messy, beautiful chaos of being human. After all, if we wanted perfection, we’d just ask AI to write our lives for us. And who wants that? Not me, thank you very much!
*Full disclosure AI was used in parts of this post. How many parts? How many do you think?
